Hayley McKay – UK songbird takes wing
Hayley Mckay may not be a name you’re familiar with, but this young songstress from Darlington, UK, is going places fast. Since winning a scholarship to the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music in 2011, she has gone on to perform in Nashville where she also co-wrote with Jan Buckingham. In 2015, she appeared at Glastonbury and supported legendary guitarist Albert Lee on his UK tour. Hayley also supported Visage, Go West and Hazel O’Connor and sang on a feature film soundtrack – ‘Harrigan’ starring Stephen Tompkinson.
2016 saw appearances at prestigious London venues, including Ronnie Scott’s, The Troubadour and The Half Moon. High profile gigs saw her support the likes of Tom Jones, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas and Scouting for Girls. At the Cornbury Festival she appeared with Bryan Ferry, Jamie Cullum and Seal.
Hayley is a gifted singer/songwriter whose major asset is divine set of vocal cords. In fact, Caffè Nero was so impressed that they play her tunes in their coffee shops worldwide. In tandem with writing her own material (be sure to watch the video above), she has recorded a number of great covers. We were bowled over by her take on Jolene – just her vocal and an acoustic guitar during a live radio performance. Stunning stuff, her voice oozes emotion and sells the song 120%. Check it out here.
